High Performance Server Architecture

This article about high performance architecture makes for pretty interesting reading, although it lost a lot of credibility for me when it categorised the choice of Java for implementing SEDA as ‘unfortunate’ in ‘the real world’.

Apparently the ‘real world’ is one where we all have nothing better to do than pointer arithmetic and chase down malloc / free memory leak bugs.

Bad Apple

iTunes 4.9 is out, and includes Podcast support. A lot of podcasters are not happy with Apple’s attempt to embrace and extend the format, and there are problems with Apple’s podcast portal changing the podcast information such as genre, and some dodgy feed caching means that its often out of date.

There is a solution however. Just click on ‘Advanced –> Subscribe to Podcast’ and paste the podcast RSS url into the text box. Much better.
